Medium Panic: Leaf Responds to Franke & Heidecke Insolvency

March 12, 2009

There’s been some serious cause for concern in the world of medium-format digital cameras this week after Franke & Heidecke, which manufacturers the body for both the Sinar Hy6 and Leaf AFi camera systems, announced on Monday that it has filed for insolvency.

That news was first reported on Luminous Landscape and then follwed up on by the British Journal of Photography today which showed both Sinar and Leaf in damage control mode as they attempted to reassure customers that cameras will continue to ship despite the German-based Franke & Heidecke’s financial woes.

In response a query from PDNPulse, the MAC Group, which distributes Leaf products in the U.S., shared a statement (in full, after the jump) about the Franke & Heidecke insolvency from Leaf’s Director of Sales & Marketing Ziv Argov.

“Regardless of what you might have heard, the F&H manufacturing plant is operating normally and will continue to operate while F&H works with their creditors to reach agreement on the best way forward,” Argov’s statement reads, in part.

“While this process advances, production of Leaf AFi parts and components continues. To further ensure that F&H continues operating efficiently, an interim administrator is being appointed to evaluate the F&H business. What this means is that we will continue delivering Leaf AFi-II camera systems, lenses and accessories.”
